ABOUT US IN 2023
The Bury St Edmund's Art Society was formed with a successful art exhibition in 1947 followed by an exhibition at the School of Art Building, Cornhill, Bury St Edmund's in 1948. It continued at the Town Hall, Cornhill, Bury St Edmunds and in 1952 a new Art Gallery was opened in the School of Art which had formerly been occupied by the Fire Service.
It’s still an active society in 2023, with a welcoming Society promoting artists and their work. Members include people from all walks of life and include professionals, experienced or amateur artists. They work in an ever-widening range of media, including drawing, watercolours, oils, acrylics, pastels, mixed media, pen & ink, linocut, printmaking, sculpture and woodcut.
We have visiting artist demonstrators nearly every month using a variety of media, professionals who can answer your questions about e.g. what frames or paper to use, as well as an annual critique session of members’ work which has become more popular over the years.
As well as exhibiting at our annual Art Exhibition held in Bury St Edmunds, members have the opportunity to promote their work on their own Gallery pages of the Society’s website, so take advantage of membership now
We look forward to meeting you and you’re also welcome as a visitor before you join, for a small entrance fee of under £5 at any of our meetings which are now held at the
The Southgate Centre, Heron Road, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 2QA
where we meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month with talks and demonstrations starting at 7pm through to 9pm
